About Indigo Fox Co.
Waachiyaah, Welcome!
My name is Mary Monger and I’m the artist/designer behind Indigo Fox Co. I’m Inuk, Eeyou and Quebecois from Eeyou Istchee in Northern Quebec, Canada, currently based in Tiohtiá:ke.
I come from a family full of super talented artists and credit my cousin Paula for teaching me everything I know about beading. Nuhkum would make these beautiful parkas and embroidered stories along the hem. She also made sure that she made a doll for every baby girl that was born in the family.
I always had an interest in learning how to create. I loved anything that had to do with art and crafting. If it was creative, I wanted to learn. I am so grateful that, through beading, I am able to be creative while also practicing my culture and traditions, especially since I’m so far from home.
When I’m not beading, I’m doing a bunch of other creative things like crocheting, sewing or cooking. I always take opportunities to learn. I'm also currently doing freelance project management in branding and graphic design.

So why "Indigo Fox"?
"Indigo fox" came from a dream I had about a fox about a year ago.
In the dream, I was walking in the street when a strange man started following me in his car. To avoid him, I started walking towards an alleyway where a couple of big dogs were playing. The man got out of his car and ran towards me and told me not to go in the alleyway because the dogs were dangerous. After resisting his warning, he grabbed my arm to stop me. Behind me, I heard this deep voice say “Let her go” as I was trying to get him to let go of my arm. I looked over and there was a very tall, big man with blue skin.
He got the strange man to leave and I turned towards him and asked him why his skin was blue. He told me that he’s a spirit and that him and his family are here to help guide someone.
The dogs came over and one of them was black and as big as a wolf. It kept insisting that I pet it so I starting petting it and noticed that he wasn’t a dog or a wolf, he was a huge fox. And he wasn’t black as I first thought, he was a very very deep night blue.
Fast forward, the guy invited me to have tea and bannock with his family and they explained that they were here to help guide my friends son. The fox was beside me the whole time. I asked them about their blue fox and they said that they have never seen it before and that he seemed very attached to me.
Since then, the indigo fox has been showing up in my dreams recurringly.
